Remote public housing reference groups

You can talk to your housing reference group to make sure you have input into decisions about housing in your remote community.

Housing reference groups operate in remote communities, town camps and community living areas to make sure community and cultural issues are considered in housing decisions.

What housing reference groups do

Housing reference groups give the government advice on this community feedback.

This can include any of the following:

  • local community concerns and needs for housing
  • access to jobs and training in housing construction and maintenance
  • ideas for planning future housing needs.

Housing reference groups also advises the Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities on decisions like who will get a house and any community issues which may affect housing.

Members

Housing reference groups are made up of selected local residents.

They represent different interest groups in each community.

This includes people who work with youth, in child care, education or aged care.

People representing different cultural and family groups can also be included.

The group can also include people and organisations working in the community who are able to provide expert advice or help to the group.
