Expressions of interest sought for new Liquor Commission

Territorians are invited to play a key role in liquor licensing decisions in the Northern Territory by applying to join the Liquor Commission.

The Northern Territory Government is calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified people to become an active member of the commission, which will establish early next year.

The body will operate as an independent statutory authority with extensive powers to regulate liquor licensing in the NT under the Liquor Act.

Responsibilities include:

  • assessing new liquor licence applications
  • making and reviewing decisions
  • hearing and determining complaints.

It will be supported by the Department of Attorney General and Justice's Licensing NT Division.

A number of positions will be appointed to the Liquor Commission including chair, deputy chair and up to six members.

Interested applicants should apply in writing and clearly state which position they want to nominate for. Applications should include full details of qualifications and experience.

Successful candidates that satisfy eligibility requirements (52.1 kb) will be appointed for a term of up to five years, with the possibility of re-appointment.
