Mollusc fishery and licences

You must have a commercial fishing licence to collect molluscs in the Northern Territory (NT).

There is only one commercial mollusc licence in the NT which is allocated.

This licence can be bought, sold or leased.

Fishing area

Commercial mollusc fishing is allowed in intertidal waters from the high water mark out to the low water mark.

Access may be restricted around some registered Aboriginal sacred sites and protected areas. For more information about these areas, go to the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority website.

Fishing method

You can only collect molluscs by hand.

Catch

Under a mollusc licence you may take shellfish but must not collect pearl oysters and cephalapods such as squid, octopus, cuttlefish and nautilus.
