Proposed National Code of Practice for the Prevention of Falls in General Construction for Construction Work

The National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (NOHSC) has released a draft National Code of Practice for National Code of Practice for the Prevention of Falls in General Construction.

The draft standard may be downloaded via the NOHSC website.

The deadline for public comment is 18 November 2005

Construction Industry Safety Campaign

NT WorkSafe conducted a Safety Campaign throughout the construction industry in March 2005.

The campaign concentrated on how safety is being managed by Principal Contractors and Subcontractors on site and focused on the following key areas

  • use of safety plans
  • height safety including scaffolding, edge protection and fall protection
  • fencing of sites
  • provision of amenities (first aid, toilet and washing facilities)
  • housekeeping, site access/egress
  • electrical safety.
