1. Cycling in Central Australia

Cycling is a great, healthy way to get out of the car and experience the grandeur of Central Australia close up. There is a comprehensive bike path system throughout the town of Alice Springs and there's also the bike track out to Simpsons Gap for more of a challenge. If you are looking at a more challenging bike trip through Central Australia you will need to talk to others that have done the same. Road conditions vary widely throughout the region from well maintained national highways to simple bush tracks. The extremes of weather also need to be taken into account. Central Australia can get sudden, extensive thunderstorms that can transform dry riverbeds  into raging floods in a matter of a hour (usually but not exclusively in summer). Temperatures can range over a year from high 40 degrees on a summer day, right down to -8 degrees on a winters night.
