Walking at Serpentine Gorge
2. Serpentine Gorge Waterhole Walk
This walk gives you the opportunity to move through a range of vegetation as you make your way to the Serpentine Gorge waterhole. The south-facing slopes and plains near the ranges are some of the richest areas for plants and animals in Central Australia. The south-facing slopes enjoy more shade and therefore less evaporation than north-facing slopes. Therefore the soils hold more moisture which means the area can support more life. Dense thickets of shrubs are common and these shrublands often generate large amounts of leaf litter, therefore creating rich, organic soils - a rare thing in Central Australia.
