1. Wildlife Spotting at Glen Helen

Glen Helen is an amazing area, with the Finke River sweeping around and into the gorge area. Keep your eyes peeled for a wide range of water birds including flocks of Australian Pelicans and Cormorants. Dingoes, Balk-footed Rock-wallabies can also be spotted up and down the Finke River. The sandstone cliff face is also home to the fastest bird in the World, the Peregrine Falcon. Watch them swoop and hunt for other birds in the late afternoon.

A walk upstream along the Finke River will bring you to the 2-Mile Waterhole. This waterhole is actually a series of small waterholes scattered along the wide riverbed. You can spot fish life in the waterholes as well as the occasional Yabbie, a crustean similar to a small lobster. The waterhole is sometimes home to flocks of Australian Pelicans and Black Swans and a range of duck species nest in the extensive reed banks.
