There is a variety of habitats and geology in the Ormiston Gorge area including large River Red Gums, Spinifex slopes, permanent water, quartzite and limestone ranges and hills.  The full range of the West Macs fauna are on display in the area including resident Dingoes, native fish, carpet pythons and the quintessential Dusky Grasswren, not to mention an abundance of frogs, cicadas and skinks in season. Winter months you will find the Dingoes and Black-footed Rock-wallabies easy to spot around the waterhole or along the cliff face on the access road. During summer months, particularly after good rainfall, a range of reptiles including dragons, skinks, goannas, legless lizards and geckoes make Ormiston Gorge a international haven for reptile enthusiasts.
