Northern Territory Taxi Subsidy Scheme

Guidelines

Please note:

  1. The scheme is designed to provide assistance to people assessed as having a disability or significant mobility restriction that prevents them being able to use public transport to access the community.

  2. Financial status, availability of public transport, access to public transport and current driver license status are not criteria for membership on its own. An applicant's age or the holding of a concession card does not automatically qualify them for participation in the scheme.

  3. Application for temporary membership must be for a condition that causes severe disability for a minimum of six months, and has the potential to respond to treatment or rehabilitation.

  4. This scheme does not provide for short-term post-acute rehabilitation (such as, following acute injuries or surgery).

  5. Disabled babies and children are considered for eligibility on a case-by-case basis (such as, if the disability requires the transport of treatment equipment such as an oxygen cylinder, suction pump, sitting frame or special wheelchair). Temporary membership is given until the permanent nature of the disability is determined.

  6. An assessor may contact the applicant or relevant health professional/s for clarification or for additional information required to complete the assessment or appeal process. Client authorisation for release of information is on page 5 of the application form.

  7. Objective clinical information should be recent and relevant to the application

  8. Delays in the assessment process and need for appeals may be avoided if the clinical information provided is adequate.

  9. Incomplete forms will be returned to the prescriber or applicant.

Further instructions and the application form are also available.
