Northern Territory Taxi Subsidy Scheme

How the electronic system works

    1. Members of the Northern Territory Taxi Subsidy Scheme (NTTSS), or the member's carer, will provide the NTTSS smartcard to the taxi driver at the beginning of each trip.
    2. Taxi drivers will then place the member's smartcard in the smartcard reader. This process will validate the membership and allow the subsidy to be automatically deducted from the fare at the end of the trip.
    3. The taxi driver will return the smartcard to the member of the scheme, or the member's carer, at the end of the trip.

Taxi drivers will also be required to check that the smartcard photo matches the member of the scheme.

The new system will automatically collect information such as the time, date, origin, destination and fare amount.

This automatic system will eliminate the need for drivers to enter information manually making the system quicker and easier than before.

Trip information will be electronically transmitted to us to enable taxi operators to be paid.
