Sober Bob

The Sober Bob program has been operating in the Northern Territory since 1997, with the phrase ‘Who’s Bob Tonight?’ becoming commonplace language.
Sober Bob aims to reduce and prevent alcohol related road trauma on Territory roads.
Sober Bob promotes the idea that choosing a designated driver before going to licensed premises is a sensible option that prevents drink driving. Designated drivers remain sober by obtaining free post mix soft drinks from participating venues. The program promotes responsible behaviour and epitomises the spirit of ‘looking after your mates’.
This year more than 130 licensed premises across the Northern Territory contribute to the success of the program. Some are large and busy establishment, others are small remote roadhouses that wish to see their regulars safely home at the end of the night. Some establishments operate the Sober Bob program all year round.
This season, Liquorland bottleshops have joined us to promote safe driving by displaying Sober Bob posters to encourage people planning to drink to arrange a designated sober driver.
Early in December, Road Safety and Police staff took a breathalyser to some city venues and gave patrons the opportunity to check out their Blood Alcohol levels. This highlighted for some how easy would be to find themselves "over the limit " and risk being "pulled over" for drink driving.
The Sober Bob program is not about discouraging drinking, but it is about planning ahead to make sure everybody gets home safely. So, don’t forget to ask:
Who’s Bob Tonight?
