General Travel Reminders

Travelling on buses in Darwin and Alice Springs

in an endeavor to make a safe and pleasant trip for passengers travelling on public buses, passengers are asked to be aware of the following advice.

  • Please have correct fare. Drivers do not have the ability to exchange large notes.
  • Please show your concession or ID card if requesting a concession fare.
  • Eating and drinking is prohibited on the bus .
  • Smoking is prohibited on the bus.
  • The driver has the right to refuse any person who is intoxicated, or so attired as to cause annoyance to any other passenger, or to be likely to soil or damage the bus or the apparel of any passenger.
  • The driver has the right to refuse any person who is noisy or violent or disturbing the peace.
  • The driver will not permit any offensive substances or objects with such dimensions as to inconvenience any passenger, or any substance, which may soil or damage the bus or the apparel of any passenger.
  • Standing on the seats is prohibited.
  • A person shall not board or alight from or attempt to board or alight from a bus while it is in motion.
  • A person while travelling in or upon a bus shall not play or perform upon any musical instrument, distribute handbills or advertisements or offer any article for sale.
  • A passenger shall not ride on the step or on any portion of a bus other than that provided for the use of passengers.
  • A driver may require any child who is travelling at concession or reduced fare or without payment of fare and is occupying a seat in the bus to surrender the seat to an adult passenger.
  • A person shall not take into or upon any bus, any luggage other than articles which may conveniently be carried in the hand, and which will not, in the opinion of the driver, interfere with the comfort of other passengers.
  • A person shall not bring on to a bus any animal other than a guide dog or a hearing dog.
