Tiger Brennan Drive Extension
Construction of the first stage of the Tiger Brennan Drive Extension (East Arm Port Access Route) will commence in April 2008 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Access to the East Arm Port will be greatly improved and become more efficient as a result. The construction will also make return trips between the Darwin CBD, Palmerston and Outer Darwin areas safer and more time efficient and will relieve pressure on other arterial roads in the Darwin urban area, including the Stuart Highway.
The first stage involves the conversion of Berrimah Road - between Wishart Road and Tiger Brennan Drive - from two to four lanes. The road works will greatly improve the traffic flow between Wishart Road and Tiger Brennan Drive alleviating congested traffic conditions particularly during the morning and afternoon peak hours.
The $6.5 million Stage One contract has been awarded to Macmahon Contractors Pty Ltd. It is part of a $110 million construction program to which the Northern Territory Government is funding $36 million and the Federal Government is funding $74 million in this joint project.
