Travel Choices and Climate Change
03 May 2007
To wrap up the current NT TravelSmart project, a forum will be held in Darwin on Thursday 24 May. The forum will focus on using travel demand management as a transport planning tool and the economic and social impact of that for government, the community and private sector. Private vehicle travel is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and TravelSmart is an example of a tool that can be used to reduce our dependence on cars. From individual choices to institutional change, there is a role for everyone in bringing about travel behaviour change.
Speakers include David Meiklejohn from Melbourne, a highly experienced consultant in travel demand management strategies and transport planning for the Victorian government. Other speakers will outline the NT Greenhouse Gas strategy and the NT's recently released physical activity strategy.
The forum is open to anyone in Territory or local government, the private sector and the wider community with an interest in travel behaviour, transport planning issues and climate change. For more information about these issues go to www.travelsmart.nt.gov.au
Date: Thursday 24 May 2007
Venue: The Gallery at the Darwin Entertainment Centre.
Costs: The forum is free of charge and lunch will be provided.
Starts: The forum starts at 9 am , finishing up at 2.30pm.
