Buying a Car

When buying a vehicle in the Northern Territory, the buyer is required to transfer ownership at the MVR within 14 days from the date of sale.

To transfer ownership of your vehicle you will need to provide MVR:

• completed (by both the buyer and seller) Application to Transfer portion of the registered vehicle certificate; or
• completed (by both the buyer and seller) form R11 - Application to Transfer NT Registered Vehicle; and
• Evidence of Identity and Residency.

• Other Proof of Ownership/Acquisition (POA) may need to be provided - refer to Information Bulletin R8 for further information.
