MVR Quick Pay— Questions and Answers
When using BPAY, what Biller Code should I use?
The MVR Biller code is 787333. This will be provided together with your Customer Reference Number on-line when you elect to use the BPAY facility.
Is my payment processed straight away - am I immediately covered?
Yes. Your registration and/or licence renewal is effective from the time your payment is accepted and the system issues a receipt number. This number should be quoted in the event that you are required by Police to verify that you have renewed your registration or licence.
Transactions that are paid using BPAY will be processed in real time and will be valid from the time your Customer Reference Number (CRN) has been issued. Once you have been issued with a CRN, you must proceed immediately to your bank site to initiate your payment through the BPAY system. If the MVR has not received your payment within 2 working days of your CRN being issued, your registration and/or licence may be cancelled and debt recovery action may be initiated against you.
What kind of vehicles can have their registration renewed online or by telephone?
Provided the renewal is routine, you can renew the registration of most vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, trailers). The MVR telephone operator or the system will advise you if your particular vehicle renewal cannot be processed by telephone or on-line.
You may not renew on-line if:
- you wish to claim a Primary Producer concession;
- you need to change any details on your Certificate of Registration;
- your vehicle is due for a roadworthy inspection; or
- your registration has been suspended or cancelled for any reason.
What driver licences can be renewed on-line or by telephone?
You can do routine renewals of most driver licences on-line. However, you must renew your driver licence at a Motor Vehicle Registry Office if:
- you have a Hire or Reward or instructors endorsement on your licence;
- you are due for an eyesight test or require a medical examination; or
- your licence image has not already been recorded and digitally stored by MVR.
How do I prove that I have paid my renewal fee?
When you have successfully completed your registration or licence renewal on-line or by phone, you will be issued with a renewal receipt number. It is in your interest to print this page and carry it with you until your new registration papers or licence arrives by mail.
How do I get hold of my actual licence or registration papers after renewing online or by phone?
The MVR will post your new licence or registration papers and windscreen label to you on the following working day for transactions done before 3.00 pm (two working days for later transactions).
Can I drive without carrying a current driver licence or displaying a current registration label following renewal by telephone or on-line?
Yes, but you must carry your receipt number instead until the new licence or registration label arrives.
Can I change my contact details (address etc) on-line without having to renew my licence or registration at the same time?
Yes. To change your contact details you can use the transaction number shown on your renewal notice. If this is not available the system will allow you to use the Customer ID and the plate number shown on your registration certificate.
I was renewing my licence or registration online and the system suddenly disconnected without warning. Has my licence or registration been renewed?
For credit card payments the renewal is not processed until you have entered your credit card details and you confirm the payment. If you did not reach this stage you will need to reprocess your transaction. If you did reach this stage and were not issued with a receipt number, contact MVR on 1300 654 628, during business hours.
For payments by BPAY the renewal has not been processed until you have obtained a Customer Reference Number (CRN) and you have made the payment to your bank's website.
