Motor Vehicle Registry
The Department of Planning and Infrastructure (DPI)provides motor vehicle inspection and registration, and driver licensing services throughout the Territory.
It also provides Motorcyclist Education Training And Licensing (METAL) training in Darwin and Alice Springs.
DPI protects the safety of road users through the development, review and administration of road transport policy and legislation.
Activities are directed primarily at the safety of vehicles and their occupants. There is also a team of on-road transport inspectors who inspects vehicles for roadworthiness and also monitor heavy vehicles to ensure that maximum loadings are complied with to protect the road asset from damage.
