About DTAL
Getting a Provisional Licence
To be eligible to undertake a Vehicle On-Road Test (VORT) with the MVR, students must have successfully completed the DTAL Program, including Theory 1 and Theory 2, and have achieved all 22 of the listed competencies, as well as the Progress Reviews 1 and 2. Further more, in line with the Northern Territory’s Graduated Driver Licensing requirements, all Learner Licence holders must have held their Learner’s for a consecutive period of six months before being eligible to book a VORT.
Once students have met the above requirements, they may book their VORT through MVR.
When booking the VORT, the MVR Officer will confirm that the six month Learner period and DTAL Theory 2 requirements have been satisfied, before removing the original, signed and stamped, Certificate of Competency - II (VORT). Students should be aware that when they do book their VORT, that DTAL will only pay for a Provisional Licence outcome IF all components of the Program have been met - that is, students should avoid taking a test too soon if they have not completed all of the DTAL requirements.
DTAL will pay for one Vehicle On-Road Test. Any subsequent testing requirements will need to be paid for by the student.
To receive their Provisional Licence at DTAL’s expense, students must have successfully completed all components of the DTAL Program, including Theory 2 and Progress Review 2.
