Indigenous Housing Assistance

Through the Indigenous Housing Assistance Services Program, assistance is provided to Indigenous people in urban centres to:
  • Obtain and maintain their public housing tenancies
  • Assist them into home ownership through HomeNorth
The program is jointly funded by the Department and the Indigenous Housing Authority of the Northern Territory (IHANT).

Aboriginal organisations are contracted to offer and manage these services independently of Territory Housing, whilst the Housing Services Branch has the responsibility of their oversight as Program Manager.

Special Needs

The Special Housing Programs administered by Territory Housing consist of the Industry Housing Assistance Scheme (IHAS), the Community Housing Program (CHP) and the Crisis Accommodation Program (CAP). The Commonwealth Government funds both CHP and CAP Industry Housing

Territory Housing provides assistance that enables key industries in remote regional centres to be allocated public housing. It also provides housing assistance to key welfare agencies in all regions. Industry Housing is allocated where private housing is unavailable or unable to meet the particular demands of the organisations.
