Home > Police > Services > FirearmsSaFER - Shooter and Firearms Easy RegistrationAs a result of the introduction of the new Firearms Act (1997) and Regulations on 13 March 1997, a number of major changes were made to firearm legislation in the Northern Territory. The computer system used for firearm licensing could not be modified to incorporate the required changes under the new Act, so the SaFER project began. SaFER was built in the Northern Territory and utilises a PowerBuilder application accessing an Oracle database. The system is year 2000 compliant. The SaFER system has been designed not only to provide greater functionality, but to do so in a user friendly format. The system can be upgraded if required, so that advances in technology will not overtake it. The SaFER system will be able to meet the Firearm Licencing and Registration needs of the Northern Territory Police for the foreseeable future. |
