Power and Water Corporation will host Health and Safety Managers from energy companies around Australia at the Energy Networks Association, Health, Safety & Environment Committee meetin;g on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June. The Energy Networks Association (ENA) is the peak national body representing gas and electricity distribution businesses throughout Australia with a focus on achieving injury free workplaces and nationally consistent safety and environment codes and regulations. > > > |

The Minister for Essential Services, Kon Vatskalis, officially opened the Alice Springs Water Reclamation Plant this morning (Wednesday 28 May) marking the completion and commissioning of the five year, $10.4 million Water Reuse in the Alice Project. > > > |

As part of its ongoing maintenance and upgrade program, Power and Water is further protecting the 66kV line along the Arnhem Highway using ‘hot sticks’, a live line procedure to changeover insulators. Power and Water estimate that 40% of units tripping and causing power outages in this area are caused by lightning strikes which affect not just residents but big operations such as the Mt Bundy and Tom’s Gully mines. Other causes are from trees and animals coming into contact with the lines. > > > |

Power and Water Corporation will energise the new power line between Batchelor and the Compass Resources Brown Oxide Mine, just outside Batchelor, with 22,000 volts of power on Monday, 19 May. While the community has watched this project with interest during construction, people are now warned to stay well clear of any power system infrastructure as with any other live system. > > > |
