A package of Government legislation to protect children will be debated during two weeks of Parliament, which begin tomorrow.

“The package includes a framework for a new child sex offender register, and new laws to protect victims of sex offences during court cases,” Leader of Government Business Paul Henderson said.

“Government will also be introducing tough new laws against child pornography and legislation to protect emergency workers and individuals from assaults while going to the aid of victims.

“Laws modernising and strengthening the use of DNA in investigations are also due to be debated, as will the Government’s Bill seeking to protect the Territory from a national nuclear waste dump.

“Chief Minister Clare Martin will deliver a statement on the business and job opportunities for Territorians flowing from the $2billion Third Stage expansion project of the Alcan Gove Plant.”
