Ms Scrymgour said $164 000 will be provided per year to the Top End Association for Mental Health (TEAM HEALTH) – awarded as part of a Community Program Training Tender. “This Recovery program for mental health consumers has been funded for three years and will provide much needed support for individuals who have impaired functioning as a result of their mental disorder,” Ms Scrymgour said. “The funds will allow TEAM Health to employ two professional staff to assist individuals with mental disorders in the Darwin and Palmerston areas with individualised rehabilitation programs. Ms Scrymgour said Building Healthier Communities prioritised mental health services – with a focus on expanding consumer and carer support services in the non-government sector and providing rehabilitation services for people with mental health problems. “Labor Government has injected an extra $12.7 million over three years into mental health services,” she said. “We are committed to tackling the serious mental health problems which affect all of us in one way or another, and these funds will strengthen support services especially through recognising the key role non-government organisations play.” Ms Scrymgour said mental health care and support available to Territorians in remote communities had recently been strengthened with the employment of two Aboriginal Mental Health Workers in East Arnhem and Tennant Creek. An extra mental health workers position in the central Australian a remote mental health team. These positions came on top of last year's creation of two senior Aboriginal Mental Health worker positions in the Top End and Central Australia. A child and youth clinical position also funded in the child and adolescent team.
