The Motor Accidents (Compensation) Act (MACA) establishes the Northern Territory’s Motor Accident Compensation Scheme and determines the scope and level of compensation benefits for persons injured, or dependents of persons killed, in motor vehicle accidents.
Following a major review of the benefit provisions of MACA during 2006 and an extensive public consultation process, the Government has introduced a range of changes aimed at improving the level of benefits for Territorians seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents, ensuring that full compensation is available for lawful and responsible conduct on our roads and at making compensation fairer. The new arrangements were gazetted on 20 June 2007 (Gazette G25) and will apply from 1 July 2007.
The changes are described in more detail in the summary paper and brochure below. Copies of the legislative amendments and regulations are also provided for information.
