The Review of the Regulatory Framework for the Port of Darwin (the Review) is a requirement of the Competition and Infrastructure Reform Agreement (CIRA) approved by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) in April 2007. The CIRA requires, amongst other things, each jurisdiction to review the regulatory framework for significant ports to ensure that effective competition in the provision of port infrastructure services is not impeded, unless the benefits to the community outweigh the costs.
The Review involved a public consultation process, with six submissions received from stakeholders. The recommendations primarily aim to promote transparency and accountability in the operation of the Port and to improve pricing and planning processes.
The Review was undertaken by an inter-departmental working group, comprising Northern Territory Treasury (chair), the Darwin Port Corporation (DPC) and Departments of the Chief Minister, Business and Employment, and Planning and Infrastructure officials.

The Australian Government has announced a First Home Owner Boost, which supplements the Territory Government funded First Home Owner Grant Scheme.
First home buyers will be eligible for the First Home Owner Boost on contracts entered into from 14 October 2008 to 30 June 2009.

The Fiscal Integrity and Transparency Act requires the public release of a Pre‑Election Fiscal Outlook Report within 10 days of the issue of a writ for an election. In accordance with this requirement, the Report was released on Friday 1 August and is now available for download.

The Report takes into account non-policy changes and policy decisions made or commitments entered into since the 2008-09 Budget. It also provides updated fiscal projections for 2008-09 to 2011-12 and preliminary information on the 2007-08 outcome.
