Budgets and Financial Management: Budget Papers

Budget 2005 backs Territorians and Territory business with less tax, local jobs and better skills.

It delivers record tax cuts - outlining $40 million in tax cuts - including record payroll tax cuts.

The payroll tax-free threshold has been lifted to $1m from July this year and lifted again to $1.25m from 1 July next year - saving Territory business and helping to create more local jobs.

These changes make the Territory the lowest taxing jurisdiction in Australia for businesses with up to 100 staff from 1 July 2006.

It's delivering better skills with 10 000 new apprentices and trainees to be supported over four years and provides more incentives for businesses taking on apprentices and trainees.

Budget 2005 also delivers record health, education and police funding and record infrastructure spending - to keep the Territory moving ahead.
