What's in it for you?

The FOIT program can offer you:

Competitive starting salary is $48 499 per annum.

Comprehensive Graduate Development Program – Formal training assists FOITs in acquiring relevant work skills (such as business writing skills and presentation skills) as well as educating graduates on the various functions of Treasury and topical issues affecting these areas.

Relocation assistance for those FOITs recruited from interstate. Treasury provides financial assistance of up to $2800 towards removal costs, plus airfares and accommodation on arrival in Darwin.

Generous recreation and personal leave provisions – FOITs receive the same entitlements as other staff and are entitled to six weeks recreation leave a year, which can be used after the first eight months of employment. FOITs are also entitled to three weeks personal or carers leave a year with two days credited on commencement and one week available after each completed two months of service, up to a maximum of three weeks per year. Ten days per year can be used to care for sick family members.

Breadth of work experience available – although the Territory is a smaller jurisdiction by comparison to other states, we still have the same responsibilities as our interstate counterparts. With at least three rotations to different Treasury divisions, FOITs have greater access to projects and experiences that are not readily available in larger jurisdictions. Find out more about the work you can undertake as a FOIT by reading the FOIT profiles.

Opportunity to continue your studies – At Treasury, we understand that continuing your professional development is important to you and your career, that is why Treasury provides study assistance to pursue your career goals. In particular we offer financial support, and leave to attend lectures and exams. FOITs may apply for study assistance in Semester 2.

The FOIT program also includes a mechanism for the regular review of FOIT performance, which is linked to the Treasury wide Performance Development Framework. This framework, as well as FOIT reviews, is based on assessing individual performance against core competencies.

Permanent Appointment – Upon satisfactory completion of the twelve month program, graduates may be offered a permanent position within Treasury.
