Current Position
Senior Budget Analyst in Budget Analysis Division
How did you join Treasury?
I joined Treasury's FOIT Program in 1998, after I completed a Bachelor
of Laws and a Bachelor of Business (Finance) at the Northern Territory
University (now known as Charles Darwin University).
My initial FOIT placement was in Revenue Development where I assisted with Treasury forecasts. This was followed by a placement in Budget Development Division where I was involved in determining the budget implications for agencies resulting from the Planning for Growth public sector restructure.
What is your current role in Treasury?
After completion of my FOIT placements, I stayed in Budget Analysis
Division as a Budget Analyst. The division advises Government on managing
its finances, allocating funds to agencies such as Health, Education
and Police, and other budget issues. My tasks include assessing Government
policies and proposals from a financial perspective, developing and
monitoring Government agency’s budgets and also providing advice
to agency fiance staff on resources and financial management issues.
Over the past three years, having progressed to the position of Senior Budget Analyst, I have been involved in major Government reforms such as the transition of PowerWater to a government owned corporation and assessing the financial implications of the O’Sullivan Policing Report. I have also been working on implementing financial management reforms under the Working for Outcomes initiative. This has involved changing financial management policies and legislation and developing performance indicators and reporting frameworks for Government agencies.
Why do you like working in Treasury?
Work in Treasury is always varied and challenging, where you can gain
a good appreciation of the services delivered by Government and where
you have the opportunity to work on strategic whole of government issues.
Not only do you build on your professional skills through training and
development, you also work in a great team environment.
