The Hon. Trevor Rees Morling
Trevor Morling served as
an additional Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory
from 1991 - 1999.
Justice Morling graduated with
a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of
Sydney.
He was called to the Bar in 1951
and was appointed as a Queen's Counsel in 1968.
Justice Morling was on the Council
of Law Reporting in New South Wales from 1974 - 1976 and was Chairman
of Counsel Chambers Ltd in 1975.
Justice Morling was President of
the Australian Bar Association in 1978, President of the New South
Wales Bar Association from 1977 - 1979 and Vice President from
1976 - 1977. He was also Vice President of the Law Council of
Australia from 1979 - 1980.
Justice Morling was Deputy President
of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal in 1981 and was appointed
as a Justice of the Federal Court of Australia in 1981. He was
also appointed as an additional Justice of the Supreme Court of
the Australian Capital Territory.
Justice Morling was appointed as
a Judge of the Supreme Court of Norfolk Island in 1984, Chief
Justice of that Court in 1990, Judge of the Court of Appeal of
Tonga in 1990, Judge of the Court of Appeal of Western Samoa in
1991 and Judge of the Court of Appeal of Vanuatu in 1991.
Justice Morling was Royal Commissioner
into the Inquiry of the Convictions against Alice Lynne Chamberlain
and Michael Leigh Chamberlain in 1986 and 1987.
In 1994 Justice Morling held a
number of appointments including Chairman of the Board of Inquiry
into the Size and Constitution of the Tasmanian Parliament; Director
of the Permanent Trustee Company Limited; Member of the Royal
Commission into the Leasing of Centenary House and Member of the
International Court of Arbitration.
