Accident and Emergency Care

The Department of Health is responsible for three key functional groups in the Northern Territory's emergency management arrangements. A fourth functional group, on behalf of the Australian Government, has the responsibility to coordinate a National and International response for the recovery of patients, principally within the APEC region.
Five public hospitals, located in Darwin, Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy (Gove), Katherine and Tennant Creek form a network throughout the Territory.
The RFDS provides broad range of services in rural and remote areas of Australia including traditional emergency flights for victims of accidents or illness, regular clinic flights to isolated communities with teams of doctors, nurses and specialists whilst increasingly providing critical support to the metropolitan area.
