Landcare




The Northern Territory Herbarium houses a reference collection of native, naturalised and cultivated plants species is provided and available for identification purposes for scientists, consultants students and interested members of the public at both Darwin and Alice Springs.
The Department of Land Resource Management is responsible for implementing the Bushfires Act and supporting landholders with fire mitigation, water allocation planning including licensing and permits, wildlife rescue and management of pest animals, managing the NT Herbarium, soil management, rangelands management, native vegetation land clearing, and weeds management.
Landcare is a community based approach to the conservation of our natural resources, with its roots in the mid eighties in Victoria with the development of a number of small Farm Tree groups. It has since evolved into a nationwide partnership between the community, industry and government to promote sustainable management of land, water and living natural resources for the benefit of the whole community.
