Mental Health

The Department of Health exists to provide services that work together for the health and well-being of our communities: maximising physical health but also the mental, social and environmental well-being of all Territorians.
The Community Visitor Program specialises in complaints resolution and advocacy for people receiving treatment from NT Mental Health Services. It is an independent service established to promote and protect the rights of Territorians affected by mental illness.
Court Support Services are the responsibility of the Department of Justice, we are responsible for meeting the on-going needs of the Judiciary and general public. This section of the website provides information relating to: Community Justice Centre, Court Support Services, The Coroner's Office, The Lands, Planning and Mining Tribunal, The Fines Recovery Unit, The Mental Health Review Tribunal.
The Mental Health Program's Policy and Program Management team is a small team based in Darwin that works to the Director of the Program and across a range of local and national priority areas. The team works in partnership with health services, clinicians, consumers and their carers to develop mental health services that can provide the best outcomes for Territorians and also has a primary responsibility for implementing, monitoring and reporting progress on all National Mental Health Strategy initiatives in addition to substantial local responsibilities.
The Tribunal was established under the Mental Health and Related Services Act 1998 (the Act). It is an independent statutory body that has the power to make decisions about the care and treatment of people who have a mental illness or mental disturbance.
