The AustralAsia Railway completes the final link in Australia's rail network. The project is being managed as a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer Back (BOOT) scheme, with lease arrangements covering 50 years' operation before the railway is handed back to the Northern Territory and South Australian Governments.
The legendary journey through the heart of Australia The Ghan operates a weekly return services departing Adelaide for Darwin and twice weekly services between Adelaide and Alice Springs. Encounter the spectacular landscapes of Australia, from the rugged Red Centre to the spectacular tropical scenery of the Top End.
The functions of the Rail Safety Unit have been transferred to the National Rail Safety Regulator effective from 20 January 2013.
