Minerals




The Minerals and Energy Division through the administration of the Mineral Titles Act, Petroleum Act and other associated legislation provides access to land in the Northern Territory for the purpose of exploration and mining. All forms of titles associated with exploration and mining in the Territory are administered by the Titles Group of the Minerals and Energy Division.
The Northern Territory's premier exploration event Exploration in the Territory continues to be at record levels, and is resulting in numerous new discoveries and emerging projects. As the Territory's exploration industry continues to gain momentum, new geoscience data from the Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) under the Bringing Forward Discovery initiative, including co-funding of greenfields drilling and geophysics, is highlighting the untapped potential of under-explored areas in the Territory.
Information and services are provided by the Minerals and Energy customer service centres, including Minerals and Energy InfoCentre, open file company reports, reference queries, library services, digital geological data. Titles Customer Service Counter for mineral and petroleum tenure, title searches, Receiver of Territory Monies for applications and rental payments and user support for the Titles Information System.
The Resource Development team facilitates mining development proposals through to the authorisation stage. Assistance is provided to broker contacts, information from industry, government agencies and other relevant stakeholders. The team is responsible for the China and Japan Minerals Investment Attraction Strategy and provides services to identify and introduce potential investors, promote NT business and assists industry with international business liaison.
Northern Territory Geological Survey supports a range of industry-focused programs that contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the geological framework of the Northern Territory. Programs are staffed by multi-disciplinary teams of dedicated geoscientists. Their activities are supported by personnel engaged in the management and delivery of geoscience information, and the capture, enhancement and analysis of spatial data.
