Families

Caring families are the basis of most Territorians ability to take responsibility for themselves and care for others, such as children and young people. The Department supports families in a range of ways encouraging healthy and supportive roles in families for men and women. We provide support to families in crisis, families who need extra support before crises occur and families who need guidance with typical challenges of parenting.
Foster carers are volunteers who play a highly valued and important role in our community, caring for children of all ages, backgrounds, cultural identities and family types. Foster Carers are everyday people, willing and able to open their own homes to provide children with safe, supportive and loving environments when children are unable to live with their own family. Foster care can be both a challenging and rewarding experience. It can make a positive difference in a child's life and in the lives of the Carer and their family as well.
