The Land Development Corporation is a commercially-oriented land developer. It can position the Territory and its industries to take advantage of the major industrial projects that are about to start or accelerate.
We assist with the resolution of land claims, process and facilitate applications for community living areas on pastoral properties, provide appropriate information and assistance in respect of native title applications and a range of ad hoc Aboriginal land issues and process permit applications for public servants to enter Aboriginal land and seas to provide Government services.
Aerial photography is captured primarily for the purposes of producing topographic mapping. Photographs (prints and digital images) are available for purchase through the Land Information Centres (http://www.dpi.nt.gov.au/whatwedo/landinformation/mapsnt/index.html) The Aerial Photography Archive consists of in excess of 350,000 photographs dating back to the 1940s. About 2,000 photographs are added to the archive each year.

The Department of Land Resource Management is responsible for implementing the Bushfires Act and supporting landholders with fire mitigation, water allocation planning including licensing and permits, wildlife rescue and management of pest animals, managing the NT Herbarium, soil management, rangelands management, native vegetation land clearing, and weeds management.

The Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) is an independent corporation established under the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority Act. The NT EPA consists of a Chairperson and 4 members appointed by the Administrator of the Northern Territory and the Chair of the NT Planning Commission. Appointed members to the NT EPA are required to collectively provide knowledge and experience in a broad range of environmental, business and social disciplines. The NT EPA is responsible for providing advice on the environmental impacts of development proposals and policy advice and regulatory services to provide for effective waste management, pollution control and sustainable practices.
NTLIS is a dynamic system of inter-related knowledge and expertise, spatial data and information, policies, procedures and standards, information technology and communications. NTLIS is focused on Corporate spatial data and information, which encompasses the spatial, geographic and attribute information required by more than one government agency or industry organisation to carry out core business functions.
The Northern Territory Planning Commission will play an important role in ensuring that the planning system in the Northern Territory facilitates sustainable economic growth, protects environmental, cultural and heritage assets and connects people and place. The Commission's primary role is to develop strategic plans and planning policies. The Commission will undertake community consultation in preparing integrated strategic plans for regions, towns and centres. As a secondary role, the Commission will advise on significant development proposals. These proposals include projects that have a significant impact on the strategic planning of the Territory, the natural environment or existing amenity.
The Weed Management Branch works to continually preserve and improve our natural resources, industries, life styles and environment from the introduction and spread of weeds. Weed Management Branch activities include exclusion, eradication where possible, survey & control, data management, education, and in cooperation with other agencies and states integrated management including biological control.
Management of Parks and Reserves within the Northern Territory plays a vital role in ensuring the enjoyment, protection and sustainability of our resources for future generations. The permits system helps the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Service to monitor and manage our native flora and fauna and to protect them against potential damage.
The Pasture Development Section is responsible for all aspects of Pasture production in the Top End of the Northern Territory. The Section aims to promote the sustainable development, use and management of native and improved pastures through research and extension. Advice is provided on soils, fertilisers, species and cultivars, stocking rates, grazing management, haymaking and pasture seed production and seed storage.
Within the Northern Territory, the allocation of an official name to a place (be it a locality, suburb, town, community, road, residential park, cemetery, building or natural feature) is the responsibility of the Northern Territory Government under the Place Names Act which allows the Place Names Committee for the Northern Territory to make recommendations to the Minister for Planning and Lands for the naming of a place.

The Natural Systems Division of NRETAS operates and maintains a network of telemetered gauging stations primarily for the purpose of providing flood forecasting advice. These gauging stations are connected to the telephone network and provide near-real-time river heights and rainfall.
Sustaining the quality of the Territory environment is dependent on adopting acceptable and sustainable waste management practices and thereby minimising the risk of pollution and degradation of the environment.
