Research Staff
The Department of Natural Resources, Environment and The Arts engages a number of expert biologists and ecologists to achieve effective conservation biodiversity outcomes.
The Northern Territory is divided into five units or groups, which specialise in specific wildlife research projects. These groups include Biodiversity North (Darwin region), Biodiversity South (Alice Springs region), Herbarium, Museum, and Wildlife Management.
The biological expertise cuts across a whole range of issues involved in the conservation of biodiversity, from understanding and classifying threatened species and threatening processes to the sustainable use of wildlife.
Research staff work with a variety of other research and academic institutions, landcare groups, land councils, land managers, and organisations involved in the conservation and use of biodiversity.
They are called upon to participate in collaborative research projects, wildlife management, co-supervision of post-graduate students and vocational training of land managers and ranger groups.
