Permit to Take or Interfere with Wildlife

It is illegal to take animals from the wild within the Northern Territory without a permit to do so.

A Permit to Take or Interfere with wildlife is placed into two main categories: a permit to Take or Interfere with Wildlife; and a Permit to Undertake Scientific Research on Wildlife.

A Permit to Take or Interfere with Wildlife is issued to people wishing to take animals from the wild. Examples of activities that require this type of permit are plant harvesting, crocodile harvesting and removal of problem animals.

A Permit to Undertake Scientific Research is required for people wishing to observe, collect, survey or monitor wildlife in the wild for research purposes.

Written permission of the land holder or relevant lands authority must be obtained prior to a permit application being submitted. If a permit is required within a NT Park or Reserve a Conditions Page (Word 51Kb) must be signed and submitted with your application.

Permission must also be obtained from the relevant land council if an application for a permit involves Aboriginal Land. Please contact the Northern Land Council or the Central Land Council if this is the case.

You will need to allow up to 4 weeks for processing your application.
