- Undertaking environmental risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential environmental threats.
- Implementing management plans and recovery programs to protect threatened species and ecosystems.
- Providing scientific advice and recommendations.
- Assisting Indigenous communities to record their traditional biodiversity knowledge and values.
- Developing and implementing management policies, guidelines and programs for the protection, conservation, and sustainable utilisation of native flora and fauna.
- Producing and implementing strategies and management programs for the monitoring and control of native and introduced pest fauna species in the Northern Territory.
- Ensuring the effective application, development and maintenance of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act in accordance with other associated legislation in the Northern Territory.
- Regulating and monitoring the issuing and compliance of permits relating to wildlife, and developing and maintaining the permits database.
