2008: Teppa Hill Preschool

In 2008 Teppa Hill Preschool developed a unit of work called "Let's get growing". Students learned about gardening, bush tucker, watering and water saving.

The Waterwise grant helped to pay for some arid zone landscaping in the preschool grounds, to reduce the amount of water hungry lawn. The teachers, kids and parents all contributed to this successful Waterwise project.

2008: Alice Springs Steiner School

In 2008 the Steiner School applied for a grant to install a water tank to collect rainwater from the roof of the Kindergarten classroom. This tank helps to reduce the risk of water erosion around the kindergarten and enables water to be stored for use in revegetation projects.

The 5/6 students were involved in the practical aspects of monitoring water use, and implementing and monitoring the revegetation project. The project was part of an integrated Lesson, incorporating elements relevant to Aboriginal culture, local history, maths science, climate and botany.

Other Project Examples Include

  • School water audit
  • Arid zone garden
  • Rainwater tank installation
  • Water efficiency retrofit (toilets, taps, showers, etc.)
