NT Waterwise Schools

Waterwise cartoon NT Waterwise Schools is a Northern Territory Government project, coordinated and funded by the Department of Natural Resources, Environment and The Arts and supported by Power and Water Corporation.

The NT Waterwise Schools program is comprised of a variety of support and incentive mechanisms to encourage Central Australian schools to expand and develop education and action programs about water.

NT Waterwise Schools Grant Round

(Maximum Grant $3 000 Including GST)

The NT Waterwise Schools program is designed to assist schools in Central Australia to achieve excellence in water management education and practice, and to recognise and promote these achievements to the wider community. Central Australian schools may apply for a grant (maximum $3000 including GST) through the NT Waterwise Schools program for a project that saves water, improves water efficiency or conserves the values of a waterway.

The Project Must

  • Save water, improve water efficiency or conserve values of a waterway
  • Link to classroom curriculum and educate students
  • Generate a ‘bright idea’ or unit of work to share with others.

Project Examples Include

  • School water audit
  • Arid zone garden
  • Rainwater tank installation
  • Water efficiency retrofit (toilets, taps, showers, etc.)

Incentives and Support

  • Accreditation as a Waterwise School - Criteria have been developed to guide your school toward achieving this mark of distinction – to be readily identified by the community as having achieved excellence in water conservation education and practice.
  • Waterwise Schools project fund - your school can access up to $3,000 to undertake projects involving students in water conservation.
  • Locally relevant information about water resources, water consumption, climate, geology, values, policy and water saving and more contained in the Waterwise Schools Program and Resource Folder.
  • Guide to resources containing further information about water and links to water education kits and websites.
  • Local excursion guide – where to go, who to ask and what to do while you are there.
  • And most significantly it’s the people resources that will be essential in assisting you to develop and implement Waterwise Schools in your school.
