Water Efficiency Program Development

NRETA in partnership with Power and Water is working to help Alice Springs residents, businesses, and schools become more Waterwise.

NRETA think Alice Springs residents want a better, more cost effective solution than continuing to waste water. Installing more efficient fixtures, eliminating inefficient practices and repairing leaks not only reduces peoples' water bills but will also help delay the need for a new borefield and water supply infrastructure.

A detailed Water Efficiency Study for Alice Springs was commissioned by the Department of Natural Resources Environment and the Arts (NRETA) and Power and Water in line with recommendations from the Alice Springs Urban Water Reference Group. The primary objective of this study was to determine demand management measures suitable to achieve reductions in annual and peak day water use. The Water Efficiency Study Stages 1 and 2 final report was delivered in July 2003 and contains a wealth of useful information on water use in Alice Springs.

The final report The Water Efficiency Study Stage 3 - Implementation of the Alice Springs Water Efficiency Program was completed in May 2007.
