The Environment
Water has been increasingly sought for different needs. It is only in recent times that serious consideration has been given to the water needs of the natural environment.
There is a paucity of scientific knowledge on the surface water requirements of ecosystems.
Although the NT has a low population base, low development, with large undisturbed areas, there are regions which are being developed such as the Daly River Basin.
In that case scientific studies have been undertaken to establish the environmental flow requirements for aquatic ecosystems (including flood plains and ecosystems).
