Katherine Water Advisory Committee (KWAC)
Managing Katherine’s Water
The public comment period for the draft Water Allocation Plan for the Tindall Limestone Aquifer, Katherine has now closed.
A wide range of feedback was received during the 5 week period from local and national interest groups. All feedback received is currently being collated and reviewed, and it’s likely that some changes will occur to the draft plan.
Further work is necessary to complete the final Water Allocation Plan for the Tindall Limestone Aquifer, and strong partnerships between the Northern Territory Government, the Daly River Management Advisory Committee and the Katherine Water Advisory Committee and the Community are essential during the final planning stage. It’s anticipated the final plan will be announced by the Minister in a few months time, with an implementation phase to follow.
The Plan’s aim is to ensure water contained within the Aquifer is managed sustainably, and a balance is created between the environment and extractive users.
