Douglas Daly and Darwin Rural Area Bore Metering Project

Media Release (pdf 99Kb)

The Northern Territory Government is undertaking a project to obtain information about ground water consumption and management in the Darwin rural and Daly region.

This project calls for volunteers to have 100 bore meters installed on properties in the Darwin rural (Litchfield Shire) and Daly regions, free of charge. The information obtained from groundwater consumption, through the installation of these free bore metres, will allow for improved planning through analysis of real data.  Improved planning will ensure the Darwin rural and Daly regions will continue to have water now and in the future.

A survey is also being conducted to obtain landholders’ attitudes to water management and patterns of water use. This survey will be mailed out to landholders, but is also available for completion online. The survey closes on March 26 2007.

Community Information Sessions on this water use study and metering project will also be held on March 13 and 15 in the Darwin rural area.

This project is funded by the Australian Government Water Fund, through the Water Smart Australia Program, which is a shared commitment to water reform between Australian Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments.
