Alice Springs Water Resource Strategy

A strategy has been prepared for Alice Springs to provide for the best long term use of Alice Springs water resources, balancing social and environmental protection while allowing for economic growth.

The strategy establishes a clear and simple framework to better manage the water resources of Alice Springs. It seeks to avoid the economic costs and environmental losses due to over extraction, salinity, degrading water quality and to better coordinate government and community activities.

The Strategy consolidates our understanding of the water resources we depend upon, it also descibes our current demands and estimates how much we will need in the future.

The Strategy has been gazetted under the Water Act 1992 and provide a framework for allocating and managing our water resources for current and future generations based on the best available information, socioeconomic analysis, and community input.
