George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens
Plant Records and Labelling
The Gardens have an electronic database to help manage information gained
from nursery, planting, seed store and field collections.
This database is also connected to another database used by the Northern Territory Herbarium. The connection allows the Gardens to cross reference information held at the Herbarium on native plants.
A Geographic Information System and Global Positioning System is used to help map the Gardens and its plants.
The Gardens have a labelling and tagging system. Plant label information is downloaded directly from the database into an engraver.
Plants are planted out with a unique number and name on a rigid aluminium tag. The tag information is downloaded directly from the database into an embossing machine.
