Visitor Centre

Incorporating a cafe, souvenir shop, community resource room and visitor and interpretation area.

Ephemeral Tidal Wetland

The wetland area is to be regraded and the surrounding areas filled to improve overall drainage.

The wetland area is regularly inundated by tidal flows.  Natural colonisation by mangrove and other littoral species will be promoted.

Incorporating a secure and managed orchid, bromeliad and tropical Pitcher plant display with toilet facilities

Existing Gardens road entrance and carparking

Upgraded to a one-way system. An additional 60 carparking spaces will be provided through staged development.

New Gardens road gate entrance

Includes associated node and new pedestrian pathways. A dedicated 'drop-off' area is provided adjacent to the new entrance road.

Sandstone escarpment lookout

This proposed lookout will provide views over the gardens and into the rainforest gully.

Mangrove Boardwalk

The expansion of the existing boardwalk along the mangrove creekline would provide access and interpretation to this habitat. The boardwalk would include lookouts above and within the mangrove and samphire area.

Fig Tree Interpretive Walk

An area along Gardens road contains several species of Ficus that can be interpreted along an escarpment walk.

New developement

The recently completed nursery provides The Gardens with modern facilities and allows the old nursery to be utilised by 'The Friends of the Gardens'.

World War II Historical Area

Containing orignal World War II trenches, is currently used to interpret Darwin World War II history.

Cycad Garden

Construction has begun on an international cycad garden. This display garden will in time be a major drawcard for the Gardens and will be of interest to local, interstate and international visitors.
