Permits
Management of Parks and Reserves within the Northern Territory plays a vital role in ensuring the enjoyment, protection and sustainability of our resources for future generations.
The permits system helps the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Service to monitor and manage our native flora and fauna and to protect them against potential damage.
Permits are required for conducting social functions, weddings, camping, photography and filming, pets, driving off road scuba-diving, fishing and much more. All commercial activities are also required to be permitted if they are being conducted within a Protected area.
These permits are known as By-Laws and are governed under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 2006 and the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation By-Laws.
Note: As a rule, if you intend to conduct any activity on a National Park that is different to a normal recreational activity, then you should contact the Parks and Wildlife Service’s Permits Office to find out whether you need a Permit or not.
