Description of Telemetered Gauging StationStation Number: R8140021Station Name: Katherine River at Upper Reaches
This site is located in the upper reaches of the Katherine River on the Arnhem Land Plateau. It was established in August 1967 as part of a program to investigate the water resources in the Northern Territory. It has since been incorporated into the Departments’ Flood Warning Telemetry Network, providing near ‘real time’ rainfall data. This data is available for the prediction of flood events that may affect Katherine. The instrumentation at the site measures rainfall data, in millimetres. This data is relayed back to the Departments’ Hydrographic unit in Darwin via telemetry. |
